HOTEL PUERTA DEL SOL. MADRID
Our client commissioned us the rehabilitation and integral reform of this emblematic building in the center of the capital of Madrid for a hotel project. It is the building where the historic Hotel París was located, the first hotel in Madrid, and where the famous “Tío Pepe” sign was placed, catalogued as Historical Heritage of the city. The property is located at number 1 of the Plaza de la Puerta del Sol, with a turn to the streets of Alcalá number 2 and Carrera de San Jerónimo number 1, in the heart of Madrid.
The project recovered a historic building in an emblematic location, with appropriate uses. The entire volume of the courtyard would be covered with a large skylight at cornice level. On the façade, the non-original elements would be eliminated. On the first floor, the non-historic additions would be dismantled, recovering a unified image, eliminating the inadequate and disrespectful modifications made by successive interventions.
Our proposal maintained the structural and typological character of the entire historic building, respecting the structural system of the basement, reinforcing the supports and distributing the point loads that arrive through the columns, thus avoiding future problems in the basement vaults. We preserved the load lines by maintaining the existing columns, reinforcing and repairing those that are not in good condition. The interior wall of the first bay was consolidated with a composite system.
