SAN MIGUEL MARKET. DUBAI

The main idea of this project was to transform a building in Dubai into a new space, combining the tradition of the European markets of the early 20th century with the new uses that are being implemented in this type of buildings, combining food courts and leisure and rest areas.

The project aims to transform the current WTC building, maintaining many of its constructions and volumetry, but adapting its spaces and style to the new concept and uses that inspired the development of the idea.

The style of decoration on each floor reflects the characteristic use of each floor.

Although the function of the new building required the modification of facilities, structure and facades, the spirit of constructive savings was very important when thinking about how to design the spaces that would accommodate the new needs. For this reason, a high percentage of the building’s structures were respected, locating the escalators close to the entrance, together with the elevator core, to which a service elevator was added next to the goods entrance. The slabs of the cantilevered cubes where the space for the elevators was enlarged are
